New Programs Introduced¶

The Frontiersman Program was introduced by the 18-year-old High Adventure Area Director, Scott "Sco" Hanson. Scott had created the Frontiersman program along with a friend while working at a summer camp in Utah. A new CIT program was designed and implemented by Assistant Program Director, Bill McKell. This was the first year a fee was charged for the program. A former program had 14-year-olds participating in one week of CIT-A (mostly observing program and operations areas) and 15-year-olds participating in two weeks of CIT-B (assisting in each program and operations area). Scouts completing CIT-B were allowed to attend the rest of the summer as an extended CIT assisting in a single area at no cost and with no pay.

Year Summary¶

Camp this year was a joint venture between the Chief Logan Council and the Scioto Area Council. In order to offer a full summer of employment, a combined staff served both Chief Logan Reservation and Camp Oyo. The staff held staff week at both camps in early June followed by two weeks of camp at Camp Oyo. During Fourth of July week, the staff split and ran a 3-day Webelos camp simultaneously at each camp. The staff then recombined for three weeks of camp at CLR.
