THE CAT CAME BACK
1987 Camp Song

Chorus Opening chorus, start with: Oh, the cat came back... as the first line here The cat came back the very next day. Oh, he cat came back, they thought he was a gonner, But the cat came back, he just wouldn't stay away, away, away, yeah, yeah, yeah!

Old man Johnson had problems of his own. He had a yellow cat that wouldn't leave his home. He tried and he tried to give that cat away, But each time he did it came back the next day, but . . .

He gave it to a man goin' way out west. He told him for to give it to the one he loved best. The train hit the turn, and then it jumped the rail, And no one is alive today to tell that gruesome tale, but . . .

He gave it to a man goin' up in a balloon. He told him for to take it to the man on the moon. The balloon came down about ninety miles away. And where that man is today I cannot say, but . . .

He gave it to a boy with a dollar note. He told him for to take it to a river and a boat, Tie a rock around his neck, it must've weighed a hundred pounds. And now they drag the river for that little boy who drowned, but . . .

Old man Johnson said, "I'll shoot that cat on sight." He loaded up his shotgun with six sticks of dynamite. He waited 'round the corner for that cat to come around. But 97 pieces of man were all that they found, but . . .

Slower . . . slow the pace by snapping fingers slower, then:

The H-bomb fell just the other day. The A-bomb fell in the very same way. England went, Russia went, and then the U.S.A. The human race was destroyed without a chance to pray, but . . . pace back to normal for last chorus can repeat chorus twice, last time through clapping above head
